LIVING ON THE EDGE OF A DESERT MEANS OCCASIONAL DROUGHTS OR MAYBE I SHOULD SAY OCCASIONAL WET YEARS. AFTER A DROUGHT IN THE LATE 90”S I HAD TO SELL MY BEEF COWS. WHEN IT FINALLY RAINED AND THE GRASS RECOVERED I BOUGHT CORRIENTE CATTLE. THEY ARE INDIGENOUS TO THE HARSH CONDITIONS OF THE MEXICAN DESERT AND CAN LIVE ON ANYTHING OR NEXT TO NOTHING. IN MEXICO THEY ARE CONSIDERED A BEEF BREED BUT HERE THEY ARE PRIMARILY USED FOR ROPING EVENTS IN RODEOS AND ROPINGS AND STEER WRESTLING. THEIR TOUGHNESS AND STAMINA KEEP THEM FROM GETTING BURNT OUT IN THE ROPING ARENAS. ALSO THEIR HORNS GROW FASTER THAN THEY DO , SO BIG HORNS WITH LIGHT BODY WEIGHT IS AN ADVANTAGE TO THEM AND TO ROPERS.
I MARKET MY CALVES, MOSTLY TO AREA ROPERS AND RODEO AND ROPING PRODUCERS. THE LOW BIRTH WEIGHT OF THIS BREED MAKE THEM POPULAR WITH RANCHERS IN BREEDING THEIR BEEF HEIFERS SO AS TO HAVE CALVING EASE FOR THEIR FIRST CALF. AS A RESULT I ALSO SELL BLACK BULLS TO THOSE MARKETS.
GIVE ME A SHOUT IF YOU NEED SOME ROPING CALVES OR SOLID BLACK HEIFER BULLS.
